This was the home of the mill manager, and later a club of leading engineers and foremen. Throughout its history, Kantola has been a place of entertainment, celebration, formal events and negotiations. It was built in the immediate vicinity of the Sunila pulp mill as part of the Sunila residential area and mill community, designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto. The pulp mill was always under the supervision of management when they lived or stayed in Kantola.
Sunila became something that had never been seen before - a consortium of five major industrial companies, a pioneer of its time and a national pride. It was a symbol of an industrialising and modernising Finland.
The Mill Manager's Dinner is a tribute to the industrial history of the region and the history of Kantola as both a home and a club - its walls and servants have heard and seen those golden years of growth and joy, as well as the challenges and decisions of difficult times, subtly keeping the secrets within.
Dinner is inspired by the history of the region and local ingredients, and your meal may be served on the same plate where the mill manager once enjoyed his dinner. Pure and fresh ingredients are the basis of the menu, with quality and finesse in the preparation of the dishes.
We invite you to sit down at our table and enjoy a unique combination of quality and refinement, complemented by the surrounding architecture and history. Make yourself almost at home, we tend to say here in Kantola.
The Mill Manager's Dinner is a 7-course catered evening where the chef prepares the dishes on the spot, just for you. Please allow approximately four hours for the dinner. The dinner can be combined with live music or other entertainment to suit the client's requirements.
